Child suport or no?

i am 22 yrs old, and last july i got pregnant and kept my beautiful daughter, jaimee. i know who her father is. hes actually be my friend for quite a while. but i stopped hangin out with everyone when i got pregnant. and i finally told him she was his, and he has seen her about maybe 6 times, but he doesnt seem to try to come see her. he wants a test done, which im fine with. if thats what he needs to do. but its a waste of money. now his family is in a finacial hardship, his dad has been out of work for 2 years due to heart attacks. and it is himself his lil bro and his mom tryin to pay the morgage. so im the single mom with the child whos father seems to not really want n e thing to do with her, livin with my parents tryin to work n go to college. should i get child support from him or wait til hes ready to be a daddy.
