Innovation and Diffusion - Culture and Anthropology - King Islanders?

I am doing a report about the King Islanders of Alaska (Inupiaq) and am discussing social change they went through. I have plenty of information on diffusion, where ideas are borrowed from nearby cultures, but none on innovation. I was wondering if anyone knew examples of innovation that occured within Inupiaq, or even any indigenous people that might spark ideas. Much appreciated.
